Student Assistant - Laytime Team

We offer
As a Student Assistant in our Laytime team, you will be an integrated member of the team and contribute to a broad spectrum of tasks. Laytime is a smaller team of 3 employees within the commercial Operations department, and Laytime is globally responsible for laytime calculations, issuing, negotiating, and collecting demurrage and balance freight payments for the company’s fleet as well as clause and contract interpretations, all in close cooperation with the Chartering and Operations departments in an energetic environment.

You will gain experience with different aspects of shipping and you will expand your network internally with highly professional and dedicated colleagues as well as more broadly within the industry.

Furthermore, you will:

  • Assist with handling of daily laytime claims 
  • Get the opportunity to become involved in managing ships’ performance claims, which also forms part of the team’s duties
  • Do preparation, follow-up and recovery of outstanding amounts
  • Assist with contract interpretation and contract optimisation
  • Help prepare internal reports and set operational performance targets
  • Participate in customer meetings
  • Contribute with suggestions for developing and improving relationships with our customers

Whilst studying for your bachelor’s degree in International Shipping and Trade, Business Administration, Economics or other relevant education, you simply can’t wait to get your hands even deeper into the operational part of shipping. You see yourself thriving in a fast-paced, multicultural environment and you have an appetite for constantly acquiring new knowledge and competencies.

We expect that you have/are:

  • Detail-oriented and a problem-solver
  • A proactive team player that takes initiative
  • An interest in maritime law
  • A passion for numbers and IT that allows you to quickly acquire new skills in these fields
  • Prefer to work in a structured way with established standards, processes and systems that ensures efficiency and quality 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Fluent in oral and written English as this is our corporate language

Compensation
We offer a flexible working week of a maximum of 20 hours with more hours required during holiday periods. Furthermore, we believe in freedom and flexibility under responsibility so the office hours can be adjusted to accommodate your school schedule and exam periods.
