Laytime Specialist
Do you have a flair for numbers and a sharp eye for detail, and do you enjoy seeing complex cases through to the finish line? We are looking for an experienced Laytime Specialist to take end-to-end ownership of laytime calculations and be a key driver in setting up and refining procedures that keep our demurrage process running smoothly. In this role, you will ensure that demurrage invoices are settled on time, data and voyage insights are efficiently collected from operations, and that feedback is given back to the commercial teams.
As part of Ultrabulk’s ongoing digitalisation journey, you will also be part of exploring and adopting new tools, data insights and ways of working that make laytime handling smarter and more efficient.
This role can be based in either Copenhagen, Rellingen, Singapore, or Santiago.
What you will be doing
Laytime is a small, specialised team of two within the Commercial Operations Department. The team has global responsibility for laytime calculations, issuing, negotiating, and collecting demurrage and balance freight payments for the company’s fleet. You will also be involved in clause and contract interpretation, always in close collaboration with our Chartering and Operations departments in a dynamic, international environment.
Furthermore you will:
- Take ownership of daily laytime claims handling
- Manage ships’ performance claims
- Prepare, follow up on, and recover outstanding amounts
- Interpret contracts and contribute to contract optimisation
- Prepare internal reports and set operational performance targets
- Participate in customer meetings and negotiations
- Develop and strengthen relationships with our customers through a professional and service-minded approach
- Contribute to our digitalisation initiatives, for example by supporting new systems, automation and data-driven improvements
To succeed in the job
You thrive in a fast-paced, multicultural environment and are motivated by continuously learning and building your expertise. You value a good working atmosphere and are keen to contribute positively to the social environment at Ultrabulk. You are also curious about how digital tools and data can improve the way we work, and you are willing to challenge existing processes and test new solutions.
We imagine that you…
- Have at least 3 years of experience within operations or a demurrage department and an interest in maritime law
- Are a strong team player with the ability to build trustful relationships and work constructively with others
- Enjoy being in daily contact with colleagues, agents, and international customers, handling complex tasks without losing your overview
- Are comfortable working with procedures and controls that ensure high-quality, efficient work
- Have a genuine passion for numbers and IT, and quickly pick up new tools and systems
- Work in a structured, disciplined, and self-driven manner
- Are detail-oriented and solution-focused, with a proactive mindset and willingness to take initiative
- Are fluent in written and spoken English, which is our corporate language
- Hold a valid residence and work permit for the chosen work location
Not meeting every single requirement? At Ultrabulk, we believe the right candidate brings not only reliability and attention to detail, but also contributes positively to our culture, one built on strong teamwork and a welcoming, social atmosphere. If you're excited about this role but your experience does not match every single bullet, we would still like to hear from you.
